THE 364-DAY SOLAR COUNTING CALENDAR

12 Months • 30 Days Each, With Every 3rd Month Having 31 Days • 364 Days

Today, we’re introducing a simple way to understand and count the days of the year using a consistent numerical calendar.

This calendar begins at the March equinox, marking the beginning of Month 1.

Rather than using the traditional calendar with months of different lengths, this system uses 30-day months, with every third month extended to 31 days.

☀️ THE 12-MONTH COUNT

  • Month 1 — 30 Days

  • Month 2 — 30 Days

  • Month 3 — 31 Days

  • Month 4 — 30 Days

  • Month 5 — 30 Days

  • Month 6 — 31 Days

  • Month 7 — 30 Days

  • Month 8 — 30 Days

  • Month 9 — 31 Days

  • Month 10 — 30 Days

  • Month 11 — 30 Days

  • Month 12 — 31 Days

TOTAL: 364 COUNTED DAYS

☀️ FOUR QUARTERS

Quarter 1: Months 1–3 = 91 Days

Quarter 2: Months 4–6 = 91 Days

Quarter 3: Months 7–9 = 91 Days

Quarter 4: Months 10–12 = 91 Days

☀️ WHY STUDY THIS CALENDAR?

The purpose is to explore a simple, consistent method of counting days.

Most months have 30 days, while every third month has 31 days. Each quarter contains exactly 91 days, creating four equal quarters across the calendar year.

This is a 364-day counting system, not a complete astronomical solar year. The actual solar year is approximately 365¼ days, leaving about 1¼ additional days that would need to be accounted for separately to maintain alignment with the March equinox.

🌎 LET’S DISCUSS

What would change if we counted most months as 30 days and added a 31st day to every third month?

Would equal 91-day quarters make it easier to understand time, seasons, and yearly cycles?

How should the additional day or fraction of a day needed to align the calendar with the solar year be accounted for?

If you count solar days without seasonal changes your counting system will reflect 360 days.

30,30,30,30,30,30,30,30,30,30,30,30.

If you count solar days with seasonal changes your counting system will reflect 364 days..

Your solar calendar will begin at the March equinox, with 12 months following your exact counting pattern:

30, 30, 31, 30, 30, 31, 30, 30, 31, 30, 30, 31.

That produces 364 days, leaving approximately 1¼ days to account for in a complete solar year.

The calendar now has four equal quarters of 91 days each, beginning at the March equinox.

One decision remains: should the extra day needed to reach 365 be an independent solar renewal day, outside all 12 months? That would preserve your exact 30–30–31 pattern.
